THE IRISHMAN viewers have been left outraged after noticing “lead” actress Anna Paquin only speaks SIX words in the three and a half hour Netflix film.

The Martin Scorsese movie is the 37-year-old star’s first major role since she shot to fame playing Sookie in TV series True Blood.

She is the sole big female name and appears alongside Hollywood bigshots including Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, and Joe Pesci.

But despite being the only key woman in the story, and the film’s lengthy run, Anna has less than 10 minutes of screen time.

The Irishman follows hitman Frank Sheeran [De Niro]’s recollection of his time in the Italian mafia.

Anna plays Frank’s daughter Peggy, but only appears a few times in the male-dominated film.

Fans were furious by the lack of female representation in the Netflix movie, taking to social media to share their outrage.

One wrote: “Anna Paquin is such a great actress, I was waiting for her to speak more than a line and… it didn’t happen.”

Another complained: “Release the rogue cut of The Irishman so Anna Paquin can talk!”

A third seethed: “Still thinking about the fact that Anna Paquin literally only has one line in The Irishman… The misogyny of it all.”

Tarantino’s edit of Margot Robbie also sparked backlash earlier this year

While this apparent snub towards women is usually uncommon within Scorsese’s catalogue of hit movies, this is not the first time this year a director has been accused of editing out women.

Over the summer, Quentin Tarantino faced backlash when viewers realised Oscar-nominated lead actress Margot Robbie had substantially less screen time than her male counterparts in Once Upon A Time In Hollywood.

In the two hour and 45 minute flick, the Australian native only has 30 minutes of time on screen – and few lines.

Tarantino was confronted on the issue at a press conference but refused to explain Margot’s diminished role in the film.
